Vineyard Sources

"The art of the blend" is a phrase used with frequency at Donedei. Winemaker Carolyn Lakewold carefully chooses fruit from select vineyard sources to create her stunning Cabernet Sauvignons and Merlots.

Just as we feel Donedei ("gift of God") describes our wines, it is a true gift that we are able to work with such wonderful growers. The vineyards specially selected for Donedei wines are arguably the best in Washington State, and each contributes its unique terroir to the "art of the blend." Donedei works closely with each grower and maintains control over designated rows and plants at each vineyard site. All fruit is handpicked. The careful selection and blending of fruit from these individual vineyards results in wine inspired by the soul and crafted to perfection.

Made from 100% free-run juice, Donedei wines are powerful and assertive, yet also display sophistication and finesse. These artisinal wines are for the truly discerning palate.

Alder Ridge – Horse Heaven Hills

A hot vineyard site that is moderated by cool evening temperatures, Alder Ridge is located high above the Columbia River in the Horse Heaven Hills. Sandy soil and longer hang times yield fruit that is inky black, deep and concentrated.

Artz Vineyard – Red Mountain

Fruit from Artz Vineyard is characteristic of Red Mountain: big, dark and possessing a strong streak of minerality. This fruit contributes a thick, lovely, complicated profile to Donedei wines.

Ciel du Cheval – Red Mountain

Fruit from world-renowned Ciel du Cheval located on Red Mountain comes from some of the oldest vines in the state. The small cluster fruit is intensely concentrated: dark, brooding, "gothic" and slowly reveals itself over time.

Elephant Mountain – Yakima Valley

Elephant Mountain is located on a high site in the Yakima Valley and fruit from this vineyard is forward and assertive. Large, plump clusters are grown in loamy, sandy soil and contribute a signature profile of sweet, jammy fruit.
